Hello again I have a couple more questions about Ole's family after receiving such good intormation and so quickly! Did Ole and his family leave Trondheim on the ship Christiansand? (Reinholdt's age is wrong on the manifest; should be @ 6 as I have seen both he and Johannes in a Minnesota census and Reinholdt is a few years older). Also is there some site to check people moving into Norway; it appears that Ole's parents came from Sweden in about 1830. And is there a site to find an older census than 1865; that is the oldest census available on the site I use. I would like to see one in which Ole was still in his parents' household and perhaps learn if he had siblings. A new subject: Regine died in Minnesota in 1877; Ole married a woman named Christine/Christina who apparently was born in Hammerfest in about 1846. A Rev. Ilmonen has written a book about immigrant homesteaders and he states that Christine left Norway in 1870, was married to a man with the surname Maunu (doesn't say where they married) and that her surname before marriage was Moodi. I saw a list of non-farm surnames in Norway and one was Moddi/Moddy so that could be a possibility. Unfortunately, the census records in Minnesota that include her never give a father's name or a middle name for her. I certainly appreciate all the good help I received on Ole; many thanks to all who replied. I don't seem to be able to figure out the reply system here. Sorry. Can I be greedy and lucky enough to get a couple more mysteries solved? Bev Wright |
